Star Cube: Experimenting With the Quilt Block Star Unit

In two of my previous blog posts I have introduced the Quilt Block Unit. It is a very versatile construction unit and can be used at different stages of development. In a recent experiment I came up with a new way to use them. Let me show you the project.

Let me show you how I constructed it.

How To Start:

Start with the traditional pin wheel base.

Raise each of the four points like a shark fin and collapse to the center.

Flip the unit to the backside.

Blintz the four corners to the center.

Flip the unit to the backside.

At this point you can interlock six units to create the cube.

Once you have the cube you need to pinch up the diamonds to open the centers for the inlays.

Now you need to create the smaller cross units for the inlays.

To do this you will need six smaller squares.

Fold them the same way up to this point.

Turn over .

Lift and squash out the diamonds to form the cross.

Flip the unit and tuck in the four corners. Next, fold each shield shaped side to an airplane point as shown to make the stars.

Now take these and glue them into the six windows of the cube like this:

Now you have the finished form. You can add a string loop to use it as a Christmas ornament or just keep it in its current form.

Consider the Possibilities:

Whenever I come up with a new project I am reminded of the fact that there are many ways to use things I have learned before. It is important that the things we do have lasting value. What we do and put into our minds is important. We should fill ourselves with good things and be known for our good works.

Each of us have been given different abilities and experiences that allow us to share these things with others. God created us in His image so we, like Him can be creative. He wants each of us to acknowledge His plan for our lives by accepting Him as Savior then allowing Him to direct our paths for His glory. Interestingly we can do this with everything we do!

Colossians 3: 23-24

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the LORD and not to men, knowing that from the LORD you will receive the reward of the inheritance.”

Do you know Him as your LORD and Savior? He makes our lives meaningful and directs us in the way we should go.

Proverbs 3: 5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to Him , and He will make your paths straight.”

I hope you enjoyed learning how to fold the Star Cube. If you come up with new ways to use these units let me know. They are fun to experiment with and you can make some amazing things with these units.
